Rhode Island is known for its vibrant arts community, which offers a wealth of resources for art enthusiasts, whether you're a student, an artist, or someone who appreciates creativity.

Here are some notable galleries, supplies stores, and organizations.


Art Supplies

Jerry's Artarama

With a store in Providence, Jerry's Artarama offers a vast selection of art supplies, from paints and brushes to canvas and easels, catering to artists of all levels. It is located on North Main Street in Mount Hope.

BLICK Art Materials

The Providence BLICK store has a wide assortment of art supplies, craft supplies, and unique gift items. They work with local artists and arts organizations and support various community events. They are located on Wickenden Street in Fox Point.

CCRI Campus Store

The Campus Store sells school and art supplies (e.g., clay and tools). Financial Aid can cover course materials, including supplies at the bookstore.

Other

Beyond what is listed below, there are several other supply stores. On the East Side, there is the risd:store, which is located on North Main, and Adler’s Design Center & Hardware on Wickenden Street, across from BLICK in Fox Point. Michael’s Stores has locations throughout RI, and Hunt’s Photo & Video is in Providence on Branch Ave. Lorraine Fabrics in Pawtucket is a short drive east of the Lincoln campus.


AS220

AS220 is a non-profit community arts organization based in Providence. It provides artists studio spaces, galleries, and performance venues to showcase their work. AS220 is known for its inclusive and diverse community, supporting artists from various backgrounds and disciplines. The organization also offers educational programs and youth-focused initiatives to nurture creativity and artistic expression. AS220 Main Stage and Gallery are on Empire Street in Providence.


 

Rhode Island State Council on the Arts

RISCA is a state agency that provides grants, resources, and support to artists and arts organizations across Rhode Island. They offer funding opportunities for various artistic disciplines, including visual, performing, and literary arts. RISCA also organizes workshops, exhibitions, and events to foster collaboration and engagement within the arts community.


RISD Museum

RISD Museum was established in 1877 as part of a vibrant creative community; the RISD Museum stewards works of art representing diverse cultures from ancient times to the present. It is the 20th largest art museum in the United States and has seven curatorial departments. RISD Museum is on North Main Street in Providence.


Brown University

CCRI students can access several resources at Brown, including its various libraries. The List Art Center and Bell Gallery host regular exhibitions, lectures, and panel discussions.


Hope Artiste Village

Hope Artiste Village, one of the largest mill restoration projects in Rhode Island, is a hub of cultural activity fostering collaboration and innovation among a diverse community of creatives and professionals. Located on Main Street in Pawtucket, the Village hosts a creative mix of art studios, live/work lofts, retail shops, light industrial workshops, and professional office suites. The mill space boasts cafés, a coffee roaster, a live music venue, fitness studios, designers, artisans, and event spaces.


New Urban Arts

New Urban Arts student-led approach to learning enables young people to discover their power and develop agency. NUA is a haven from the manydaily pressures and systemic inequities young people navigate. Founded by artists in 1997, we are in Providence on occupied Pokanoket, Wampanoag, and Narragansett land.


The Wurks

The Wurks is a collaboratively managed artist’s workspace in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. The space houses communal wood and metal fabrication shops, a print shop, an exhibition space, and sizable studio spaces for individual artists and groups. The Wurks is a place for diverse artists and designers to foster a community of hard work and forward-thinking in the Ocean State.

Scholarships

University of RI

Jesse M. Simmons Memorial Scholarship in Art

University of Rhode Island incoming art studio majors who show talent in painting and have a financial need. Eligible students must show exceptional merit, have a GPA of 3.0 in Art studio courses for two semesters prior to the period of the award, must have financial need, and plan to remain an art major at URI.

RI College

Ethel Salhany Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Rhode Island College applicants must be enrolled as undergraduate art majors. Applicants must also qualify for financial need and be a Rhode Island resident.

Anthony M. Masi Ed.  ’74, CAGS ’77 and Lillian J. Masi

Rhode Island College applicants who have earned an associate degree from the Community College of Rhode Island. Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and qualify for financial need.

Providence College

McAllister Scholarship

Providence College applicants who provide portfolios including 10-20 JPEG images that represent your best and most recent work in any medium.

Salve Regina

Salve Regina University Visual and Performing Arts Scholarships
