Learn to Ride Safely and Confidently
Whether you're new to motorcycling or looking to enhance your riding skills, CCRI's
Motorcycle Rider Education Program offers courses for riders of all experience levels.
Taught by experienced Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Coaches, our programs
emphasize safe riding practices, responsible decision-making, and the skills needed
to ride with confidence.
Courses are offered throughout the riding season at CCRI's Warwick and Lincoln campuses
and include options for beginners, experienced riders, private instruction, and instructor
preparation.

Basic Rider Course (2-Wheel)
Designed for new riders seeking to earn a Rhode Island motorcycle endorsement. The
course includes classroom preparation, hands-on riding instruction, and successful
completion may qualify students for a motorcycle road test waiver.

Before You Register
Before enrolling, students should:
- Register online through the CCRI Workforce registration system.
- Select the course that best matches their experience level.
- Review the course schedule and attendance requirements.
- Complete the required online eCourse before attending on-cycle training (Basic Rider
courses).
- Review the refund policy.
- Obtain the required riding gear before the first riding session.

What to Expect
The Basic Rider Course consists of approximately 16.5 hours of instruction, including:
- A self-paced online eCourse
- Two in-person riding sessions
- Motorcycle skills development in a controlled training environment
- Instruction from certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoaches
- Motorcycles are provided for Basic Rider courses.
Safety Requirements
Student safety is our highest priority.
- Students participating in on-cycle training must wear:
- DOT-approved helmet
- Over-the-ankle footwear (no heels)
- Long pants
- Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
- Full-fingered gloves
- Eye protection
- Students who do not arrive with the required safety equipment may not be permitted
to participate.
- Students without a motorcycle endorsement should not ride a motorcycle to class.
After You Complete the Course
Students who successfully complete the Basic Rider Course should present their Certificate
of Completion to the Rhode Island DMV within six months to obtain their motorcycle
endorsement.
Certificates expire after six months.
Students who do not obtain their endorsement within twelve months must complete the
Basic Rider Course again.
Reciprocity
Students who completed an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course
in Massachusetts or Connecticut may be eligible for Rhode Island reciprocity.

Duplicate Certificate
You must apply for your permit at the DMV within six months of receiving your certificate
of completion from our Basic Rider Licensing class. If you lose it or it gets damaged
you may be eligible to get a duplicate certificate.
