Position Information

Shop Tech

The Studio Technician is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture studios located on campus. This position responds to the requests of the art studio professors. It is responsible for various tasks, including preparing studios for classes, organizing and inventorying supplies, assisting with EPA compliance and safety procedures, photographing and handling student artwork, and other duties as requested by faculty.

Ceramics Assistant

The Ceramic studio assistant keeps the day-to-day operations moving smoothly; Clean and prepares the studio before opening hours; manages class materials and supplies, maintains the potter's wheel and kiln, etc.  Light cleaning and organization of the ceramic areas as well as periodic mixing of class glazes and slips. Collection and storage of waste clay/materials, supervision of electric kiln firings, and possible preparation of demonstration materials. Occasionally, the assistant may complete a particular project, such as making and firing test tiles.

Art Gallery Monitor

The Art Gallery Monitor is responsible for maintaining the operation of the Art Gallery. Assist in the installation and de-installation of art exhibitions. Assist in the planning and research for art exhibitions. Assist visitors to Art Gallery, including answering questions about art exhibitions. Maintain security of the Art Gallery. Maintain neatness and tidiness of the Art Gallery, including storage areas. Assist during exhibition receptions, including setting up before and cleaning up after—transport material to and from the art gallery from other parts of campus. Edit graphics files using graphics software. Edit online gallery exhibitions. Gallery hours are approximately Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but may vary per semester and campus.

Lab Monitor

The Lab Monitor is responsible for maintaining the operation of the computer lab they are assigned to. Maintain security of computer lab. Ensure functionality of computer equipment, including computers, monitors, mice, keyboards, printers, and scanners. Assist students with hardware and software. Ensure that students in the computer lab follow the computer lab policy.

Photo Lab Monitor

The Photo Lab Monitor maintains a clean and safe work environment during open lab hours. Mix chemicals and keep the darkroom and studio area clean. Report any breakage, damage, or abuse of equipment and facilities to photo instructors and/or art department technical staff. Supervise students working during open lab hours to ensure they follow lab rules and procedures and clean up after themselves.

Equipment Assistant

The Equipment Assistant is responsible for maintaining the lighting, camera, and related equipment used in the Video Art studios on the 6th floor of the Warwick Campus. This position supports the needs of the Video Art faculty and assists in preparing the studio for classes. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down equipment, organizing and inventorying gear, charging and maintaining batteries, ensuring equipment is stored properly, and performing other tasks as requested by faculty.
