An Introduction to Transgender Health
Program Description: This virtual, educational activity will provide both physicians and medical professionals an introduction to the transgender community, including how to provide gender-affirming care and use appropriate vocabulary to improve the patient-provider relationship and decrease healthcare disparities. Physicians and healthcare professionals will learn about the barriers members of the transgender community face when accessing healthcare, as well as strategies to recognize and decrease barriers to care.

Who Should Attend: Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Social Workers, Medical Students, Dental Professionals, Residents & Fellows, CCRI Allied and Rehab Health Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Clinical Instructors.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply vocabulary learned during the presentation into practice to decrease barriers to the transgender person receiving healthcare.
- Recognize the barriers to receiving healthcare faced by members of the transgender community.

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Community College of Rhode Island. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Physicians: The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Nurses: This program has been approved for 2.0 nursing contact hours by Community College of Rhode Island. Community College of Rhode Island is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Dental Professionals: This program qualifies for credit through the Rhode Island Dental Association. The Rhode Island Dental Association is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance for a maximum of 2.0 hours.
Psychologists: The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University has been approved by the Rhode Island Psychological Association to offer continuing education credit for psychologists. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University maintains responsibility for the program. This program is approved for 2.0 Category 1 CE Credits. (Credits available to RI licensed psychologists only).
Social Workers: An application has been submitted to the NASW, RI Chapter. Determination of credit is pending.
Other Healthcare Professionals: Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance stating this program is designated for 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Many other disciplines accept this credit toward re-licensure or recertification, including the AAPA and AANP. Check with your state licensing board to verify.
