Software Development (CWTC)

Mission:

The Certificate in Software Development certificate offers the opportunity for students to have the required skills and training for an entry-level career in software development. Students acquire knowledge in one computer programming language (introductory and advanced level), foundational mathematics for computer science, and software development. Students learn the use of an appropriate software development methodology in the completion of a group project.

Web Technologies (CWTC)

Mission:

The Web Technologies certificate offers the opportunity for students to specialize a in the field of web development. Participating in the website development process from concept through installation, students learn the critical thinking, problem solving, technical, and soft skills necessary to interact with clients and produce web content and programming using current industry technologies. The Computer Studies department sets high academic standards necessary for transfer and career success, including the lifelong learning skills necessary to stay current with emerging web trends and techniques in the field.

Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate a basic level of competency in programming and logic skills.
  • Utilize web technologies.
  • Develop, administer, and maintain a web programming system solution.
  • Administer and maintain a website.
  • Present conclusions effectively, orally and in writing.

Networking Technician (NWTC)

Mission:

The Networking Technician certificate offers the opportunity for students to learn the critical thinking, problem solving, technical, and soft skills necessary to create, implement, modify, and troubleshoot computer networks. The program will prepare students to sit for a variety of international networking certifications including the CISCO CCNA and the CompTIA N+. All credits will transfer into the Computer and Networking Technology Degree.

  • Evaluate information presented in graphical form.
  • Organize ideas to support a position.

Network Software (CMNC)

Mission:

The Networking Software certificate prepares students for careers in modern office environments, emphasizing both client and server technologies.

Computer Support Technician (CSTC)

Mission:

The Computer Support Technician certificate gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of desktop technology which includes hardware and software, and operating systems. The program will prepare students to sit for a variety of international networking certifications including the the CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Linux+. The program sets high academic standards necessary for transfer and career success, including the lifelong learning skills necessary to stay current with emerging technology trends and techniques in the field.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of computer hardware and software.

Networking Support Technician (NSTC)

Mission:

The Network Support Technician certificate gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of desktop technology which includes hardware and software, networking, virtual computing and security. The program will prepare students to sit for a variety of international networking certifications including the the CompTIA N+ and Microsoft MCSA. The program sets high academic standards necessary for transfer and career success, including the lifelong learning skills necessary to stay current with emerging technology trends and techniques in the field.

Data Analytics (DATC)

Mission:

The Certificate in Data Analytics aims to introduce the concepts, techniques, ideas, skills, theories, methods, and practice necessary for entry in the fields of Data Analytics or Data Science. Students will learn the foundational skills necessary to work in a data driven world. Statistical, data, and visualization tools will provide students with the background necessary to complete either a capstone project or an internship in the field of Data Analytics.

Outcomes:
  • Perform statistical analysis of data to provide the basis for decision making.
  • Utilize data analysis tools for the analysis of data sets.
  • Construct computer programs to access and manipulate data sets.
  • Develop visualizations of data to communicate the results of statistical analysis.
  • Analyze real-world problems based on data analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a project from the design stage to the final report.

Cyber Defense (CYBC)

Mission:

This certificate in Cyber Defense is an opportunity for students to learn a strong foundation in the principles and methods of cybersecurity, as well as the fundamental knowledge and tools for applying security measures across a variety of network architectures and settings, the educational background and hands-on training necessary to prepare students in the cybersecurity defense sector. The curriculum meets the National Security Agency (NSA) and Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) core foundational content and standards.

Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Present conclusions orally and in writing.
  • Develop solution algorithms.
  • Install and securely configure, operate, and maintain computer network(s).
  • Implement secure network management including intrusion prevention.
  • Explain the basic objectives of cybersecurity and the importance of information security as well as the current threats to networks.
  • Assess cybersecurity risk management policies to adequately protect an organization's critical information and assets.
  • Develop appropriate workplace attitudes and identify, understand, and work within professional standards.
