New Faculty Mentoring Program
CCRI recognizes the importance of providing support and development for new faculty members and also values the expertise of its experienced faculty. The CCRI Mentoring Program brings these two groups together to create an opportunity for expandedorientation, enhanced scholarship, collaboration and collegiality. Mentors will volunteer to work with newly hired faculty to communicate CCRI’s values and standards, share information about college resources, policies and procedures, and build awareness of valuable teaching techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make initial contact with mentees during September 2017 to develop mutually agreed upon goals and establish a tentative monthly meeting schedule
- Facilitate the development of 3-4 measurable, objective goals to be achieved by the end of the mentee’s first academic year
- Meet regularly with mentees; meetings will be collegial, collaborative and respectful. Mentors will demonstrate respect for professional boundaries, and maintain confidentiality
- Identify growth opportunities for mentees and encourage their participation in professional development events
- Direct mentees to appropriate college resources, departments and personnel, as needed
- Keep meeting records to track recommendations and status of goal(s) achievement
- Assess the effectiveness of the mentorship program in the fall and spring semesters
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of full-time teaching at CCRI, the support of their department chair, and excellent student and faculty evaluations
- Successful completion and documentation of professional development activity within the last 2 years
- Experience in pedagogy/andragogy and knowledge/use of a variety of teaching and technology skills
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures including accessing rosters, verification of enrollment and submitting grades
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
