Electric Boat Maritime Trades

In collaboration with the Westerly Education Center and Electric Boat, CCRI enrolls students in maritime trades courses that prepares students to work in manufacturing environments dedicated to the production of vessels for the U.S. Navy.

The Electric Boat Maritime Trades program at CCRI offers a direct pathway into one of Rhode Island’s most important industries. Through hands-on training in trades such as electrical, pipefitting, rigging, sheet metal, and paint, students gain the in-demand skills needed for immediate employment with Electric Boat.

Every course is designed with industry input to meet rigorous standards, giving participants practical experience, job-ready expertise, and a strong foundation for a stable and rewarding career.

Students learn the fundamentals of shipboard electrical systems, including electrical theory, blueprint reading, wiring techniques, and safe use of tools and test equipment. With accuracy and safety as priorities, graduates are prepared to support critical electrical work in the shipyard. 200 training hours

This course equips students with the skills to install and maintain the piping systems that keep submarines operating. Training includes reading trade drawings, using industry tools, mastering pipe terminology, and applying pipe bending and hanger installation techniques. 240 training hours

Rigging students train to safely move and install heavy shipyard equipment and materials. Instruction covers rigging calculations, cranes, hoists, and hardware, while emphasizing teamwork and problem-solving. Graduates are prepared for one of the most dynamic and safety-critical trades in shipbuilding. 80 training hours

This course focuses on the fabrication and installation of light-gauge metal components such as ductwork, bulkheads, lockers, and shipboard furniture. Students practice blueprint interpretation, layout, and assembly using real-world shipyard processes, including work in confined spaces. 200 training hours

Painters play a vital role in protecting submarines from corrosion and marine growth. Students gain hands-on experience with surface preparation, mixing and applying industrial coatings, and techniques such as spraying, rolling, and sandblasting. With training in safety, precision, and adaptability, graduates are ready for this physically demanding and essential trade. 80 training hours

In addition to technical training, all students develop critical workplace skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving. Each course emphasizes completing work safely, on time, and to the highest standards—skills that set graduates apart in the shipyard.
