LaPointe named Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief Outcomes Officer

The Community College of Rhode Island today announced Greg LaPointe as Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief Outcomes Officer.

LaPointe, a Wakefield, RI, resident, previously served as the college’s Associate Vice President of Impact and Institutional Effectiveness since July of 2019, where he supported the college’s strategic plan through the modernization of the student experience with greater personalization and more connected services in addition to bringing data to faculty and staff for use in improving student outcomes.

An effective, collaborative, and strategic leader, LaPointe also led the college’s Division of Student Affairs in an interim role beginning in November; in that capacity, he helped maintain a culture of respect, trust, and motivation at CCRI, placing students at the center of decision-making and connecting student affairs with learning. 

LaPointe joined the college in 2017 as its Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, where he spearheaded the implementation of critical student success technologies, including Starfish and Signal Vine; led the use of data analytics to support the Rhode Island Promise Scholarship program; and was central to the college’s significant performance improvement. 

A member of the U.S. Coast Guard as a Marine Science Technician Reservists from 2009–2017, LaPointe earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance and his MBA and Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership from Marist College; his Master of Arts (MA) in Political Science and Survey Research from the University of Connecticut; and his Education Specialist (EdS) degree in Higher Education from the University of Maine.
