Registration is now open. High school students are invited to see examples of skilled trades professions from CCRI experts, network with and discuss career options with Employers. Friday, May 1st, 2026, 8:30am - 1pm


Rhode Island high school students are invited to explore hands-on career opportunities
in the skilled trades. "Buses are available on a first come, first serve basis for schools that have more
than ten students registered."

LAB SESSIONS
Trades Day will feature a variety of workshops, lectures and demonstrations based on our Trade explorations offered by Workforce partnerships.

| Career Jeopardy | Play jeopardy to explore your strengths and use your competitive spirit to uncover Various Trade career options that fit you. |
| CNC Machines | (Computer Numerical Control) manufacturing. Students will be lectured on the process of using computer programs to control machine tools, allowing for precise and automated cutting, shaping, and creation of parts from raw materials. |
| Culinary Arts | Students will be in a classroom setting learning food safety and kitchen safety regulations and gain real-world skills through first hand instructions from culinary staff. Students will also experience hands-on demonstrations. |
| Metal Makers: Sheetmetal Skills | Learn to interpret construction drawings and apply basic skills in fabricating and installing light-gauge metalwork, including ductwork, lockers, cabinets, doors, and furniture. |
| Pipes in Action: Build & Connect | Learn essential pipefitting skills, including reading trade drawings, using tools, calculating pipe bends, installing hangers, and preparing pipes for welding. A hands-on workshop for students exploring pipefitting careers. |
| Red Sauce | Students will learn how to prepare fresh pasta and a quick marinara sauce in a classroom setting. Guided by culinary chefs, they will gain real-world kitchen skills through direct instruction, hands-on demonstrations, and active participation in the cooking process. |
| Spark & Connect: Electrical Skills Lab | A structured, hands-on demonstration where students will briefly learn the skills and knowledge needed to become licensed electricians. How to plan layouts, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. |
| EMS Workshop - Fish and Dirt: the importance of fisheries and soil to Rhode Island | Discover Food from the SeaandIntroduction to Soil Science, two courses that explore local fisheries, soil formation, and conservation through hands-on, community-focused learning |
| EMS Workshop - Flip It! The Power of Compost | Permaculture (BIOL 1060) can teach us to turn environmental problems into solutions. Rhode Island has an enormous problem: food waste. It costs us money, clogs our landfill, damages our waterways, and contributes to climate change. How can we turn it into a solution? Compost. It's fairly easy, will save you money, and create healthier ecosystems for all. |
| EMS Workshop - The Buzz on Native Bees | Students will explore the diverse and wonderful native bees of Rhode Island. Topics will include bee diversity, behavior, habitat, food sources, pollination, and conservation. |
