Math Resources
Success in math is not about natural ability. It’s about building strong habits, staying consistent, and using the resources available to you. The strategies below can help you stay organized, manage your time, and build confidence throughout the semester.
In-Class Success
-
Arrive to class early when possible so you can settle in and prepare.
-
Sit where you can clearly see the board or screen and stay focused.
-
Bring all required materials (notebook, calculator, textbook, etc.).
-
Ask questions whenever something is unclear.
-
Take organized notes:
-
Use a dedicated notebook.
-
Label each entry with the date, chapter, and topic.
-
Leave space to add clarifications later.
-
-
Review and rewrite your notes after class.
Time Management
-
Study math at least 5 days a week, not just on class days.
-
Work on homework soon after class while the material is still fresh.
-
Use time between classes to start assignments or review notes.
-
Starting early gives you time to get help if needed.
Homework Strategies
-
Treat reading the textbook as part of your homework.
-
Take notes while reading and write out practice problems.
-
Check your answers whenever possible.

Use available resources:
- Course website materials

Preparing for Tests
-
Create a formula sheet as you study.

Study in shorter, regular sessions instead of cramming.
-
Carry study materials with you to review during the day.
-
Practice a variety of problems, especially more difficult ones.
-
Make sure you can solve problems without looking at notes or examples.
-
During the test:
- Show all your work
- Check your answers
Strategies for Solving Word Problems
-
Read the problem carefully, more than once if needed.
-
Identify what the question is asking.
-
Pick out the important information and numbers.
-
Write an equation that matches the situation.
-
Solve the equation.
-
Check that your answer makes sense and answers the question.
-
Write your final answer clearly, including units.
