Nursing professor Furtado named new Assistant Dean of Nursing

Assistant Professor Lisa Furtado has been appointed Assistant Dean of Nursing, effective January 14, 2024.

Assistant Dean Furtado was Assistant Professor in the LPN and ADN programs at CCRI from June 2019–December 2023, teaching students in the classroom and the clinical settings.

Her nursing background is diverse; she has been blessed with many opportunities throughout her career, including spending the first 10 years of her career working in adult medical oncology. During her tenure in this specialty, she held positions as Inpatient and Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Nurse, Assistant Clinical Nurse Manager, Nurse Director, and Clinical Research Coordinator at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and Landmark Medical Center.

In 2012, she transitioned to a career in maternal and child health, working at Women & Infants Hospital as a mother/baby nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, and Nurse Educator over the span of eight years.

Assistant Dean Furtado graduated from Rhode Island College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the University of Rhode Island in 2015 with a Master of Science in Nursing Administration. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Nursing from URI.
