CCRI Foundation receives nearly $1 million in gifts for dental clinic

The Community College of Rhode Island Foundation has recently received major multi-year
capital funding gifts from Delta Dental of Rhode Island and the Champlin Foundation
to support the refurbishment of sixteen dental operatories in the college’s Dental
Hygiene Clinic.
The Community College of Rhode Island’s Dental Clinic is the state’s only educational
safety-net dental clinic, serving over 1,000 Rhode Islanders annually while also providing
dental hygiene students with an immersive learning experience under the supervision
of a licensed dentist and dental hygienist. Offering preventative oral health services
without regard for a patient’s ability to pay, CCRI’s Dental Clinic continues to be
a critical component of the health care delivery system in Rhode Island.
“We are grateful for the generous support of Delta Dental of Rhode Island and The
Champlin Foundation,” said Meghan Hughes, President of CCRI. “This investment in our
student’s clinical learning experience will contribute to the diversity and skill
proficiencies of Rhode Island’s future dental hygiene workforce.”

serves both Rhode Island dental patients and students. These two gifts are among the
largest private gifts CCRI has received, and reflects the recognition of the critical
work CCRI does to support our community and educate Rhode Islanders.”

Program at CCRI plays a crucial role in delivering on that need,” said Joseph R. Perroni,
president and CEO of Delta Dental of Rhode Island. “We are proud to support CCRI in
providing high-quality education and training for dental hygienists who, ultimately,
will provide quality dental care to our members.”
Nina Stack, Executive Director of The Champlin Foundation said, “Champlin provided
support for the original dental learning clinic 20 years ago and the college not only
made excellent use of it but also maintained it wonderfully. It is certainly time
for an upgrade and we are very happy to help support this modernization for the students
and patients.”

76-year-old Musician Completing CCRI Degree Decades After Starting

Nearly 30 years after beginning his CCRI education, 76-year-old Ed McGuirl is about to check the final box on his long, fascinating résumé. In the mid-1990s, the Jamestown resident studied at CCRI to pursue a social services degree that would complement his work as a substance-abuse treatment professional. But a busy work schedule forced McGuirl to indefinitely pause his studies – until now.
The Community College of Rhode Island announces its Spring 2025 Dean's List. Students enrolled in a degree program who have completed 12 credits with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher thissemester with no grade lower than “C” are eligible for this scholastic honor.

Since awarding its first grants in 2023, the foundation has expanded skilled trades career pathways through its growing roster of funded partners of 60 community colleges and nonprofit organizations across 28 states.

The annual theater season begins Thursday, July 31 with CCRI Players’ adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors”, which will be directed by Karen Carpenter and run through Sunday, Aug. 3. The performance, rehearsals for which began this week, is the first of a two-part series that will conclude with a four-day run of Shakespeare’s “Richard III” premiering Wednesday, Aug. 20.
