Lady Knights Beat BHCC 86-24 in Home Opener!

Warwick, R.I. – November 15, 2021: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College to the Cullen Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon for their home opener. The Lady Knights beat the Bulldogs 86-24. With the victory CCRI begins the season 2-0 overall and in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights were coming off a convincing 70-46 victory in their season opener versus Bristol CC and were looking to continue their winning streak on their home court versus the Bulldogs on Saturday. CCRI took control of the game early paced by freshman Center Maggie Schwab (Narragansett, RI) who scored 12 of the Lady Knights 24 points in the first quarter as they took a 24-5 lead after the first. The Lady Knights momentum carried into the second quarter as Schwab teamed with Chloe Rayko (Coventry, RI) to score 11 of CCRI’s 22 points as they extended their lead to 39 points by halftime with the score 46-7.

In the third quarter CCRI held Bunker Hill scoreless while tacking on another 30 points making the score 76-7. With the game already in hand CCRI, spread the ball around and ran clock and took the pressure off on defense as the cruised to the 86-24 victory.

The Lady Knights were paced by Maggie Schwab who scored 16 points with eight rebounds, an assist and a steal. Co-Captain Talia Thibodeau (Cranston, RI) came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points with six rebounds and two assists. Freshman Guard Chloe Rayko scored 12 points including two 3-pointers with three assists and two steals. Freshman Co-captain Michelle Moreno (Providence, RI) scored 11 points with four assist and five steals. Elizabeth Bruno (Providence, RI) also had a very good game scoring nine points on 3-4 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc while also offering game-highs with seven assists and six steals. It was pretty much a dominating outing from the Lady Knights from tip-off. 10 of the 12 Lady Knights made the scoring column while dominating the boards with 43 rebounds, sharing the ball with 26 assists and a stifling defense that swiped 24 steals.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday when they travel to Brockton, MA to play the always formidable Warriors of Massasoit Community College at 5:30pm as part of the doubleheader with the Knights.
