Lady Knights fall to Macomb but Beat Bay College in Florida!

Titusville, FL, – March 12, 2020: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Chain of Lakes park in Titusville, FL to continue their early season Spring Training trip. On their third day Sunday the 8th the Lady Knights faced the Monarchs of Macomb from Warren MI and the Norse of Bay College from Escanaba MI. The Lady Knights lost to Macomb 11-6 and defeated Bay College 9-7. With the split the Lady Knights are now 2-4 on the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 6 Macomb- 11

In the circle for the Lady Knights was freshman Emily Drainville (Rumford, RI). Drainville was pitching in her second game for the Lady Knights against a very tough from the Midwest. Drainville performed well but came away with loss. She threw seven solid innings a allowing 11 runs on 15 hits with three walks and one strikeout. Macomb had a very potent line-up and Drainville kept her composure and stayed in the strike zone to minimize as much damage as she could.

Offensively for the Lady Knights Sophomore Hannah Northup (Warwick, RI) went 3-4 with a double, two singles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Freshman Casey Regine (Cranston, RI) went 2-4 with a double and a single. Braelyn Beffre (North Providence, RI) 2-3 with a single, a double, an RBI, a run scored. Sophomore Ariel Lopez (Providence, RI) went 2-4 with two singles and Haylie Wellman (Ashaway, RI) was 2-4 with two singles.

Game 2: CCRI- 9 Bay College - 7

In the circle for the Lady Knights was Sophomore Co-Captain Dayna Jackvony (Cumberland, RI) who earned her first victory of the season. Jackvony pitched very well against a mother potent line-up out of Michigan. She threw seven innings allowing seven runs, six earned on nine hits with one strikeout and one walk. Jackvony’s stat line does no truly reflect how well she pitched. Bay College had hit three home runs versus Macomb in the game prior to the one with CCRI and She was able to minimize damage. In addition , during the game she was hit with a come-backer and still was able to complete the put out and as her teammates and coaches ran to check how she was she exclaimed: “I’m fine! Let’s go!”At that point you started to feel, though this was a very tough opponent, this was a game the Lady Knights were not going to lose. Even in the seventh inning when Bay College was trailing by two runs and began the inning with a double and a single and had second and third with one out but Jackvony was not having it and closed out the game like a boss to get her first win of the year.

Offensively for the Lady Knights freshman Braelyn Beffre (North Providence, RI) went 1-3 and hit her first career collegiate Home Run a 2-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth inning. Beffre’s homer turned out to be the margin of victory for the Lady Knights. Sophomore Co-Captain Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, RI) went 3-4 with three singles, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Co-Captain Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, RI) went 2-4 with two singles and a run scored. Freshman Sara Steinkamp (Coventry, RI) went 2-3 with two singles and a run scored. Hannah Northup (Warwick, RI) had a hit with two walks an RBI and a run scored. Casey Regine (Cranston, RI) and Raevyn Watson (East Providence, RI) both added a hit. This game was very exciting for the fans watching with high powered offenses and pitchers battling their best to keep the game close.

The Lady Knights will face Spoon River Community from Canton, IL in their final game of their Spring Training trip at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, FL.
