Knights Baseball Falls in Extra Innings to Adirondack

Warwick, R.I. – March 18, 2020: The CCRI Knights baseball team continued their 2020 campaign Monday, March 9th in Winter Haven, Florida as they took on the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves (NY) for a single nine inning game. The Knights led early but a resurgent Timberwolves team came back to win the game 7-6 in 10 innings. The loss drop CCRI’s season record to 0-6 overall.

After five straight losses, CCRI looked to turn things around and got started off well as they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Freshman Ruffino Concepcion (Santo Domingo, DR) batted in the first run and was brought home by sophomore Adrian Duran (Providence, RI) to take the initial two runs.

The lead was doubled by sophomore co-captain Anthony Ramos (Cranston, RI) as he produced a two-run single to give the Knights a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. Adirondack came back with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth to level the game.

CCRI would take a one run lead in their next round of at bats as sophomore James Pederson (Westerly, RI) hit a RBI single through the left side. The Timberwolves once again pounced, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

Sophomore co-captain Alex Martinez (Cranston, RI) stepped up to the plate and produced heroics, driving in the tying run with a RBI single through the right side to level the game at 6-6 after eight innings.

Adirondack would win the game in 10 innings, scoring a single, walk off run in the bottom of the 10th.

Starting the game on the mound for the Knights was Freshman Tyler Parks (Warwick, RI) as he threw four innings, allowing five hits, four runs all of which were unearned and striking out six. Sophomore Riley Beard (North Kingstown, RI) threw three and two thirds innings of shutout relief work, conceding just one hit and striking out four batters. Sophomore Peter Cohen (North Attleboro, MA) contributed one inning, allowing two hits, two earned runs and one strikeout.

At the plate CCRI was led by Alex Martinez as he went 2-2, two singles and a RBI. James Pederson was 2-4 with two singles, a RBI and a run scored. Anthony Ramos contributed a 1-3 performance, a single and two RBI. Sophomore co-captain David Meech (Douglas, MA) and freshmen Brodie Carey (North Attleboro, MA) and Weston Bruce (North Stonington, CT) all batted 2-4 with two singles each. Adrian Duran was 1-1, a single with an RBI and a stolen base. Freshman Chase Griffin (Providence, RI) batted 1-2, a single with a stolen base. Ruffino Concepcion contributed a 1-4 performance with a single, one RBI and a stolen base. Freshman Lewis Nunez (Providence, RI) rounded off the offense as he batter 1-4 on the day.
