Warwick, R.I. – December 5, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA on Wednesday evening to play the No.3 ranked (NJCAA DII poll) Warriors in a Region XXI inter league game. The Lady Knights lost to the Warriors 99-54. With the loss CCRI falls to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights knew that this game would be one of the toughest on their schedule all year. Massasoit is ranked No.1 by NJCAA Division III in scoring with 109.9 points per game and No. 1 in scoring defense only allowing 42.6 points per game. The Warriors two top scorers are also in the top five in the NJCAA Division III Ty Hawkins in No. 1 averaging 40.3 points per game and Shardajah Collins is No. 4 in scoring with 25.1 points per game. That being said it was a very good showing for the Lady Knights as they held Massasoit 10 point below their scoring average and scored 13 points more than their points allowed average.

The Lady Knights were very much in the game as the first quarter ended with the score 12-22 Massasoit. CCRI was led by Jada Burton-Hall (Providence, RI) with four points in the quarter and Destiny Gregson (North Providence, RI) with a 3-pointer. But the Warriors extended their lead to 23 points by halftime leading 58-25 led by the scoring duo of Hawkins with 10 points and Collins with nine points in the quarter. CCRI answered with seven points from Burton-Hall with seven points and Kelsey Kozlin (West Warwick, RI) with four points in the quarter including a 3-pointer. The Lady Knights could not keep up with the scoring pace of the Warriors as they had doubled the score of CCRI by the end of the third quarter 76-38 and went on to win by the final count of 99-54 despite 17 second half points from Sophomore Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI) which included five 3-pointers.

The Lady Knights were led by Nicole Chamberlain who scored a team-high 22 points including six 3-pointers with three rebounds and a steal. Also playing well for CCRI was Jada Burton-Hall with 13 points, nine rebounds, three assist and a steal. Kelsey Kozlin had seven points including two 3-pointers, Jazlynn Jimenez (Providence, RI) five points and a team-high seven assists and three rebounds while Destiny Gregson added five points, seven rebounds and two assists.

The next games for the Lady Knights will come in the Genesee Community College Cougar Holiday Classic in Batavia, NY. On Saturday they will face the hosting Cougars of Genesee at 1pm and Sunday they will face the Thunder Wolves of Niagara County Community College at 11am.
