Knights Bully Bulldogs in Last Regular Season Game 13-0!

Warwick, R.I. – August 8, 2019: The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Boston, MA to face off with the Bunker Hill Community College Bulldogs for their final regular season game of the 2019 season. The Knights continued their dominance, winning the game 13-0 in five innings. The win improves CCRI's season record to 21-10 overall, 13-1 in Region XXI play and 12-1 in League play.

CCRI wasted no time, scoring in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. They struck again with four runs in the second inning and one in the third to open the lead up to 6-0. Two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth inning solidified the lead at 13-0 and a no-hitter pitching performance on the mound ended the game with CCRI on top of Bunker Hill 13-0 in five innings.

The Knights sent freshman ace Ben Sears (East Providence, RI) to the mound for the start. Sears threw three hitless innings, striking out five batters and allowing just one walk. Freshman Peter Cohen (North Attleboro, MA) came in for two innings of relief pitching and continue the no-hitter, adding four strikeouts in route to the shutout. Sears and Cohen combined for the first CCRI no-hitter since Max Marcotte threw one last year on March 31st against NHTI.

Ben Sears ends the 2019 regular season with six wins, good for 15th best in the nation. Sears' 2.45 ERA is good for 19th in the nation, 71 strikeouts sits him 12th in the nation and a whopping 14.49 strikeouts per nine innings is the fourth best in the country.

The offense totaled 10 hits and was led by sophomore Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) batting 2-4 with a homerun and a double, a team leading five RBI and one run scored. Sophomore co-captain Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI) went 2-2, two singles with two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore Jacob Frost (Cranston, RI) registered a 1-2 performance with one single, two runs scored and one RBI. Freshman Anthony Ramos (Cranston, RI) batted 1-4, a single with two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore Zack Odsen (Providence, RI) recorded a 1-3 performance at the plate with a triple and two runs scored. Freshman David Meech (Douglas, MA) added a single while going 1-2 along with two runs scored. Freshman Alejandro Martinez (Cranston, RI) was 1-2, a single with a run scored. Sophomore Ray Aponte (East Providence, RI) rounded off the hitting, going 1-4, a single and a run scored.

The CCRI Knights baseball team will next be in action on Thursday, May 9th at 3:30 p.m. at home as they host the Massasoit Community College Warriors for the first round of the Region XXI Tournament.
