Math 8825C: Support Introduction to College Mathematics

Credit hours

1 remediation (in-house) credits with a Pass/Fail grade scheme

Prerequisites

Math 0099 with a grade of C or better and concurrent enrollment in the Math 0825C course with the same section number.

Course Description

This course provides active support for students taking Math 8025C through the use of a just in time remediation approach.  Students in this class will also be taking Math 8025C with the same instructor concurrently.  The additional one hour per week allows for time to practice what has been learned in Math 8025C and it allows for more question and answer sessions.  Instructors may use the class time for supplementary instruction, group work or one on one support.

Course Objectives

  1. Develop the critical thinking and study skills necessary for success in Math 1025/8025C
  2. Make the transition from developmental mathematics to Math 1025/8025C
  3. Reach a level of mathematical maturity necessary for success in Math 1025/8025C

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes for this course are identical to those of Math 1025/8025C.  The purpose of this class is to allow students who might otherwise not be eligible to take Math 1025 to complete the course with added support.  Students in this class will take Math 8025C for three hours per week in addition to attending this class for one hour per week.  Instructors will use the additional time to provide supplemental instruction, review difficult concepts, help students with homework and answer student questions.
