James N. Bradley

Bio

James Bradley is in his fourth assignment as a Chief Information Officer at the Community College of Rhode Island as part of an accomplished career dedicated to higher education.  He is married and has two successful daughters and five wonderful grandchildren.

He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law Houston and has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1998. Jim holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the University of St. Thomas in Houston where he was a member of Delta Mu Delta honor society. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Houston.

Jim is an AGB Institute for Leadership and Governance Fellow, a CLIR & Educause Leading Change Institute Fellow and serves on the Chronicle of Higher Education's Leadership Board of CIOs, and the University of Houston's Digital Media Program Advisory Board.  He previously has served as chair of the Board of the Lonestar Education and Research Network, their Executive Committee and was a member of the Forbes Technology Council. He has been a co-PI on two successful National Science Foundation grant applications, including the LEARN-led grant titled Accelerating Research and Education at Small Colleges in Texas via an Advanced Networking Ecosystem Using a Virtual LEARN Science DMZ (Award Number: 1925553).

Prior to his current assignment, Jim served as CIO at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Trinity University in San Antonio and at the University of Texas at Arlington. He also served as Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and Academic Computing at Tulane University in New Orleans where he was responsible for research and instructional technology, internal and external partnerships, and traditional technical support across multiple Tulane campuses. Jim served as an Executive Director and in multiple other leadership roles in the University Information Technology division at the University of Houston for 24 years leading units responsible for Technology Support Services including Campus Network and Telecommunication Services, Web Technologies, Customer Services and IT Communications as well as staff and special project roles for their CIO. 

He also served as an adjunct professor teaching technology, database and Web topics. He began working in information technology in higher education as a student at the UH Computing Center. He has also worked for HEB and Bechtel in corporate roles.

Jim has served on numerous boards and university committees and special assignments as well as volunteer and community service activities. He has also been an active contributor to Educause, LEARN, and Internet2.
