Engineering Systems Technology Degree Tracks

Mission

The degree gives students the opportunity to develop a core understanding of technology systems. The program sets high academic standards necessary for transfer and career success, including the lifelong learning skills necessary to stay current with emerging technology trends and techniques in the field.

Outcomes

Students will be able to...

  1. Effectively communicate in technical and non-technical environments.
  2. Function effectively as a member or leader in a technical team.
  3. Apply the knowledge techniques, skills and modern tools of engineering technology to solve broadly-defined problems.
  4. Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering technology problems.
Electrical Concentration/Track

Students will be able to...

  1. Analyze passive electrical circuits and active electronic circuits.
  2. Employ electrical components and control technology for overall system performance.
  3. Code PLCs and microcontrollers for networking and system control applications.
Mechanical Concentration/Track

Students will be able to...

  1. Use Solidworks CAM and apply it to engineering graphics and mechanical design.
  2. Apply the basics of engineering materials and structures to mechanical design.
  3. Code PLCs and microcontrollers for networking and system control applications.
Energy Utility Concentration/Track

Students will be able to...

  1. Analyze passive electrical circuits and active electronic circuits.
  2. Employ electrical components and control technology for overall system performance.
  3. Code PLCs and microcontrollers for networking and system control applications.

Mission

The Energy Utility Technology certificate offers the opportunity for students to learn the critical thinking, problem solving, technical, and soft skills required by the energy industry. All credits will transfer into the Engineering Systems Technology Degree.

Outcomes

Students will be able to...

  1. Solve and analyze various energy industry computational problems.
  2. Demonstrate industrial safety practices, including the use of personal equipment and group safety procedures.
  3. Demonstrate overall energy industry knowledge, including regulatory and business issues, as well as energy generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  4. Demonstrate industry skills and practices, including field power measurements, specialized equipment use and cable handling, preparation and installation.
  5. Configure, analyze and test various electrical components and electrical subsystems.
  6. Configure, analyze and test various digital components and digital subsystems.
  7. Effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications for reports and presentations.
  8. Demonstrate positive workplace behaviors and ethics, including effective team work and bias-free and fact-driven decisions.
  9. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications, reports, case study analyses, and portfolio entries.
  10. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving and troubleshooting skills applied to both qualitative and quantitative problems.
