Warwick, R.I. – March 27, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team hosted the Knights from Northern Essex Community College on Monday evening. Braving the low 40s temperatures, this was a rematch of a game from last week in which CCRI came on top 12-3. This game went the other way however as the Northern Essex bats were on fire. The CCRI Knights lost the game after seven innings, 15-2. The loss drops CCRI's season record to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in Region XXI play.

CCRI – 2 Northern Essex – 15 (7 Innings)

This game was in stark contrast to that of the Friday meeting between the two ball clubs. In that Game, CCRI was prolific at the plate and solid in defense. It would be the Knights of Northern Essex however that would enjoy the share of quality play.

Northern Essex would start quickly, scoring four runs in the first and another in the second to grab the early 5-0 lead. They would score two more runs in the third before CCRI could answer back.

In the bottom of the fourth, Steve Cochrane (Guilford, CT) slapped an RBI double to give CCRI their first run. In the next inning Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) hit a single to right field that would score Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI) from second. However Northern Essex would go onto score eight more runs as the won the game 15-2.

CCRI generated six hits in the game, leading the team at the plate was Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) going 3-4 with a run scored. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) batted 2-3 and Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) swiped two stolen bases in the game.

Matt Gutelius (South Kingstown, RI), Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) and Joey Barter (Smithfield, RI) combined for the seven innings of work on the mound for CCRI. They conceded 12 earned runs and tallied five strikeouts along the way.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Knights baseball team will host the Cougars of Holyoke Community College on Tuesday March 27.
