Warwick, R.I. – June 6, 2018: CCRI Knights golf team athlete Tyler Boisclair (West Warwick, RI) traveled to Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY for day one of the NJCAA DIII National Tournament. 12 teams and 87 individuals took to the 103-year-old course located just south of Lake Erie and the US-Canadian border in the western most part of New York for four days of tournament golf at its finest.

Chautauqua Golf Club, which opened in July of 1914, offers a different test than what most golfers are used to. Two legends of course design have had their hands on the modern-day layout. Both Seymour Dunn and Donald Ross bear their names as course architects for Chautauqua. The Lake Course boasts a 6559, par 72 and will host the 2018 NJCAA DIII National Tournament. A combination of water hazards, trees encroaching on the fairways and strategically placed bunkers forces golfers to plan their way around the course. One cannot simply hit the ball without proper planning and foresight of that shot.

Tyler Boisclair teed off at 9:32 a.m. but started slowly. Boisclair bogeyed his first two holes, following that up with two straight pars going to two over through four holes. A bogey six on the par five fifth dropped Tyler to three over par before he took one back after birding the par three sixth hole. Boisclair finished the front nine at four over par, 39.

Heading to the back nine, Tyler went bogey, par, birdie. The birdie came from yet another par three, this time, the 195-yard 12th. Swapping pars and bogies every other hole saw Boisclair came in at three over, 40 for a total of seven over par, 79. This placed Tyler in a seven-way tie for 11th place, eight strokes off the lead.

Fellow Region XXI golfers from Massasoit Community College also took to the course. As a team, Massasoit shot 327 on day one, which put them at sixth place, nine strokes behind leaders Georgia Military College. Massasoit was led by Chris McMarrow who shot three over, 75, placing him tin a three-way tied for third.
