WARWICK, RI — The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) is proud to announce the launch of
a new Mammography Certificate Program beginning in Fall 2025. Developed in response
to growing demand across Rhode Island and Massachusetts for certified mammography
technologists, the program offers registered radiographers the opportunity to gain
specialized training in breast imaging and prepare for careers in this high-need area
of healthcare.
"CCRI continues to lead the way in developing timely, relevant training programs that
respond directly to the needs of our healthcare partners and our communities,” said
CCRI President Rosemary A. Costigan, Ph.D., RN. “This new mammography program is another
example of how we are preparing students for meaningful, well-paying careers while
strengthening Rhode Island’s healthcare workforce.”
The 18-credit certificate is designed for hybrid delivery and includes a required
clinical practicum at affiliated healthcare facilities. Courses cover mammographic
image production, patient care and management, instrumentation and quality assurance,
and mammography principles and procedures. Students can complete the program in two
semesters and, upon successful completion, will be eligible to sit for the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam in Mammography.
The program is open to licensed radiographers registered with ARRT. CCRI expects the
first cohort of students to graduate in May 2026. All students enrolled in the program
are eligible for financial aid, and residents of New England states may qualify for
in-state tuition through the New England Board of Higher Education’s Regional Student
Program.
“Industry demand for mammographers is significant, with vacancy rates at their highest
levels in decades,” said Maddie Josephs, MS, MLS(ASCP), Chair of Allied & Rehabilitative
Health at CCRI. “This program is not only an investment in our students -- it’s an
investment in the healthcare infrastructure of Rhode Island and beyond.”

The Mammography Certificate joins CCRI’s successful MRI and CT post-primary programs,
providing stackable credentials and career advancement opportunities for healthcare
professionals.
