Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management - Associate in Science in Business
This program may be completed at any campus but requires one or more courses be completed online. This program may also be completed fully online.
The Hospitality and Tourism Management concentration within the Business program prepares students for careers in the growing fields of hospitality, tourism, and service management. Students gain practical knowledge in customer service, marketing, human resources, and legal issues specific to the hospitality industry. Emphasis is placed on service excellence, tourism’s economic impact, and the management of hospitality operations. This concentration equips students with the skills needed for immediate employment or transfer to a four-year institution.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, a student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the general nature, structure, resources, and operations of business organizations.
- Describe and/or explain basic accounting, finance, management, and marketing functions.
- Communicate business ideas and information effectively.
- Apply problem-solving and decision-making techniques to business situations.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge and application of hospitality management concepts, including the structure, functions, and interrelationships of key sectors within the industry.
- Apply principles of service management to analyze and improve guest experiences, including customer engagement, service encounters, and quality assurance in hospitality and tourism.
- Identify and apply ethical and professional standards in hospitality operations, including human resource practices, guest relations, and service recovery strategies.
- Locate, evaluate, and apply information from marketing and industry trends to inform strategic decisions in hospitality and tourism businesses.
- Construct and deliver oral and/or written analyses of hospitality business scenarios, demonstrating effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in service-focused environments.

Transfer
Please meet with an Academic Advisor/Student Success Coach if you are interested in earning a bachelor's degree. Your Academic Advisor will help you select the courses that best prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university.
Check out the Joint Admissions Agreement if you are interested in transferring to Rhode Island College or the University of Rhode Island. The JAA program offers seamless transfer to RIC or URI with additional benefits. Transfer information, events, and articulations are available on the Transfer Center website.
