The Community College of Rhode Island will host a series of free, week-long summer
cybersecurity camps at its Newport Campus for students in grades 7 through 10. The
sessions are designed to introduce middle and high school students to the fields of
cybersecurity and technology through hands-on learning and practical challenges.
The program offers three distinct sessions, all running Monday through Friday from
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 257 at the Newport Campus:
- Standard CyberCamp: July 6 – July 10
- Standard CyberCamp: July 13 – July 17
- Robotics CyberCamp: July 20 – July 24
The two standard sessions utilize the national CyberPatriot curriculum, emphasizing
experiential learning through instruction, team-based exercises, and simulated scenarios.
The third session features a specialized focus on the intersection of cybersecurity
and robotics.
Throughout the camp, participants will develop problem-solving skills while studying
core concepts such as incident response, programming, and cyber defense. The program
aims to provide an accessible early introduction to an in-demand industry projected
for significant job growth over the next decade.
“At CCRI, we are committed to creating pathways for students to explore technology
and cybersecurity at an early age,” said Michael Kelly, Assistant Professor and Director
of CCRI’s Cybersecurity Program. “These summer camps provide a unique opportunity
for young learners to develop critical problem-solving skills while gaining hands-on
experience in one of the fastest-growing career fields in the country.”
Interested students can register for the event by filling out this application form.
CCRI’s NSA-recognized Cybersecurity associate degree program provides the hands-on
training needed to prepare students for high-demand tech jobs. It also offers current
