Ten CCRI student-athletes receive Rhode Island State Legislative Awards

Ten Community College of Rhode Island student-athletes and one Distinguished Alumni Award winner were honored Monday at this year's Rhode Island State Legislative Awards ceremony at the State House. 

The Legislative Awards are designed to provide public recognition for student-athletes from CCRI, Rhode Island College, and the University of Rhode Island for significant achievements in their academic and athletic pursuits. This year's honorees are:

• Matthew Gibeau (Warwick, RI), sophomore, men’s soccer, 3.80 GPA
• Samantha Marsella (Rehoboth, MA), sophomore, softball, 3.78 GPA
• Abigail Cahill (Cranston, RI), freshman, women’s soccer, 3.76 GPA
• Connor Warner (Westerly, RI), sophomore, men’s basketball, 3.70 GPA
• Carlos Xavier Molines Berrocal (Barrington, RI), sophomore, baseball, 3.66 GPA
• Marcus Botelho (Portsmouth, RI), sophomore, baseball, 3.45 GPA
• Kelsey Conway (Coventry, RI), sophomore, volleyball, 3.48 GPA
• Madison Capwell (Coventry, RI), sophomore, volleyball, 3.32 GPA
• Sebastian Coso (Pawtucket, RI), sophomore, men’s soccer, 3.23 GPA
• Richard “RJ” Pina (Rumford, RI), sophomore, men’s basketball, 3.11 GPA
• Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, RI), Distinguished Alumni Award Winner

Sheridan, a graduate of CCRI's Class of 2017, rewrote the school’s softball record books, setting new records for career and single-season strikeouts in addition to the record for most strikeouts in a game. She transferred to URI, earning her bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2019 and her master’s in Business Administration in 2022.

Sheridan also worked as our Social Media Coordinator before accepting a role in 2022 as a Marketing Assistant for The Bowdoin Group, a marketing firm that provides executive search and recruitment techniques to high-growth companies in the healthcare and technology sectors.
