Business Department Chair Coclin earns Teaching Excellence Award

Community College of Rhode Island Business and Professional Studies Department Chair and Associate Professor Maria Coclin has been named a regional recipient of the 2023 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Teaching Excellence Award.

The ACBSP recognizes individuals each year who exemplify teaching excellence in the classroom.

Professor Coclin and other regional recipients will be honored at the ACBSP Conference 2023 from June 29–July 2 in Chicago, where she will receive a crystal medallion and a $500 check. As a regional recipient, Professor Coclin, is now a candidate for one of two International Teaching Excellence Awards – one from a baccalaureate/graduate degree-granting institution and one from an associate degree-granting institution – which will be announced at the Annual Business Meeting & Town Hall Forum and honored at the ACBSP Accreditation and Awards Gala.

“I feel so very privileged to join fellow colleagues, both past and present, in earning this Teaching Excellence Award,” Coclin said. “I remain committed to maintaining the high standards of this honor, which is to best serve our student population.”

Professor Coclin has been an instructor at CCRI since 2012 and was also a recipient of the 2017 NISOD Teaching Excellence Award. In addition to her role as Department Chair, she is a member of the college's curriculum review committee and strategic planning committee and is chair of the committee for curriculum development and assessment for Financial Services in the Business department.

The ACBSP Associate Degree Commission established the International Teaching Excellence Award in 1995 to recognize outstanding classroom teachers. In 2002, the Baccalaureate Degree Commission created a similar award to recognize excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate/graduate degree level. ACBSP is the only specialized body for business schools that presents an award recognizing excellence in teaching, open to application by the entire membership.
