RI Early Childhood Education Training Program (RIECETP) is a comprehensive and unique
education model that strengthens the knowledge and skills of both seasoned and novice
early childhood educators. This cohort-based, scholarship opportunity provides mentoring,
coaching and formal academic coursework to optimize the learning experience for the
working early childhood education professional. Participants may enroll in the Child
Development Associate® training or the college credit pathway.

Child Development Associate® Training
The Child Development Associate (CDA) is a nationally recognized early childhood credential
designed to assess early childhood educator’s knowledge, skills and abilities using
multiple sources of evidence such as an exam, observation and professional portfolio.
The purpose of this credential is to ensure that early childhood educators are providing
high quality care and meeting the developmental, emotional and educational needs of
children
Child Development Associate® Training
12-24 Credit Model
In the ECETP college credit pathway, educators can earn up to 24 college credits in
Early Childhood Education. To start, educators complete a predetermined 4 course sequence
earning 12 college credits. Upon completion, students can choose to continue in the
program to earn an additional 12 college credits and be awarded CCRI’s Human Services
Early Childhood Certificate. All earned credits are transferable to the CCRI associate’s
degree in early childhood education.
