Why Submit a Ticket?

Accessibility Assistants help faculty and staff ensure course materials are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. Submitting a ticket allows us to:

  • Support students with approved accommodations
  • Help meet accessibility and compliance requirements
  • Reduce last minute remediation requests
  • Improve the usability of materials across your course

If you’re unsure whether content is accessible, submitting a ticket early allows us to assist proactively.

 

What Accessibility Assistants Do

Accessibility Assistants support faculty by:

  • Remediating course materials (PDFs, Word files, PowerPoints, etc.)
  • Reviewing content for common accessibility barriers
  • Creating or coordinating alternative formats when needed
  • Working with other departments on complex requests
  • Communicating progress and updates through the ticketing system Our goal is to support instruction and not interrupt it.

When Should I Submit a Ticket?

You should submit a ticket if:

  • Your Blackboard Ally score is not at 100%
  • You’ve talked to a Faculty Accessibility Champion, you’ve attended a training, or have reviewed our on-demand training offerings, and still need help
  • A student requires accessible course materials
  • You are using scanned documents, PDFs, or slide decks, or videos that require captioning
  • You want a review before sharing content with students

If you are in doubt, please submit a ticket! We are happy to help.

Tickets will be prioritized for high-demand and online course sections. Anyone is welcome to access our accessibility resources on the CCRI website at any time. Also available to you are:

  • Faculty Accessibility Champions
  • Guides on how to design accessible digital documents and videos
  • Online training (https://www.ccri.edu/digital-accessibility/training/)
  • Self-help guides
  • As well as online resources and tools

Who the Accessibility Assistants Are

Accessibility Assistants are trained staff who work collaboratively with faculty to support inclusive teaching. We are here to assist, advise, and problem-solve, not to police or evaluate.
