Turning Pain Into Purpose: The Advocacy of Miriam A. Beato '25

For Miriam A. Beato, the study of mental health isn't just a career path — it's a calling born from personal experience. What began as a private journey to understand her own life has blossomed into a public mission to ensure no one else has to walk their path alone.

Over the last year, Beato has become a prominent voice for the American Suicide Prevention Committee. By participating in community walks and sharing her story, she has successfully transformed her past challenges into a source of hope for others. This commitment to vulnerability is further immortalized in her published memoir, currently available on Amazon, which serves as a roadmap for healing and resilience.

Beato's advocacy extends far beyond the page. Whether she is discussing mental wellness on podcasts or preparing for an upcoming three-day speaking tour at local schools, she is dedicated to reaching young people before they reach a breaking point. Her recent certification from the Access Program and her current studies at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in Mental Health and Wellness are the latest steps in her professional evolution.

Her heart for service was recognized at the highest levels of state leadership when she received an award from Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos. The honor celebrated Beato's 14 years of dedicated work at El Bebe Daycare, a tenure that solidified her passion for nurturing the community.
