Dual Enrollment Cohorts

When high schools have a group of ten or more students who will be taking the same course, we register the students as a cohort to ensure they are in the same section. Most CCRI courses are offered in three formats.

  • Students may attend an in-person class at one of the four CCRI campuses in Providence, Lincoln, Warwick, Newport, and the Westerly and Woonsocket satellite campuses. High schools are responsible for providing transportation to and from campus.
  • Classes may be accessed online in asynchronous or synchronous sections. Synchronous sections meet on specific days and times.  Asynchronous sections can be accessed during the school day or at home at times that are convenient for each student.
  • When available, a CCRI professor can travel to the high school to teach the class in-person.

The Early College Teams work with high schools to choose CCRI courses that will benefit their students and align with their pathways. Both the high school and the Early College Team must agree with the course

The majority of CCRI courses are open to high school students, providing the students have met the prerequisites. Courses that may be unavailable include lab sections, programs that national certification requirements, and programs that require individual program applications or require a high school diploma for participation (e.g. Radiography, Nursing, and Dental).

The high school / school district is responsible for the cost of textbooks, electronic resources, and any other materials required for the course. These resources may be purchased through CCRI’s campus bookstore, or the high school may go directly to the publisher. Instructions on how to order from the CCRI campus bookstore will be shared by the Early College Team.

Students participating in the Dual Enrollment Cohorts are required to submit a paper application and FERPA form. Both forms require student and parent/guardian signatures.

  • These forms must be completed, submitted, and processed within the first month of classes.

If the cohort is composed of ten or more students, high schools can request that the section be open to their students only.

  • If the course is online or at a CCRI campus, the remaining seats could be opened to the general student population if the high school administrators permit.

High schools must adhere to the Dual Enrollment Timeline for course requests and application submission.

  • If a high school contacts the Early College team past the designated deadlines, the team may not be able to secure the classroom space and/or the instructor required for the class to run.
  • If student applications are submitted past the deadlines, CCRI may have to cancel the course due to lack of enrollment in the section.

The Early College Team is committed to supporting the students, high schools, and CCRI instructors who participate in the Dual Enrollment Program.
