Pride Month
June marks the celebration of Pride Month, a time when millions of people come together in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride Month is rooted in both celebration and advocacy, and Rhode Island has a proud and meaningful history in that movement. Rhode Island’s first Pride Parade took place 50 years ago this summer, in 1976, when a small group of courageous individuals marched in downtown Providence despite significant opposition. That history helped lay the foundation for the vibrant and nationally recognized Pride celebrations our state is known for today, including the Illuminated Night Parade in Providence.
