The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is offered at the Community College of Rhode Island. CLEP is sponsored by the College Board and offers you the opportunity to obtain college credit by examination. Many American colleges encourage students to take CLEP tests for credit in subjects they have mastered. People of all ages interested in pursuing a college education have reduced cost in time and money completing CLEP tests.
CLEP TESTS ARE COMPUTER-BASED. CLEP offers two types of 90-minute multiple choice tests. The General Examinations are designed to measure familiarity with material which would be covered in courses taken during the first two years of college to meet the general education or liberal arts requirements, and are offered in English Composition, Humanities, College Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & History. Subject examinations are designed to measure knowledge and achievement usually covered in specific college courses.
To make an appointment students must send their completed CLEP Exam Registration Ticket (please include your phone number) and a money order for the $30 test center fee (payable to CCRI) at least two weeks prior to the testing date. Cash, Check and Credit Card not accepted. Test fee payment must be made through CLEP directly. Please visit the CLEP website and go to My Account portal to make your online payment.
You will need to bring two (2) forms of photo identification the day of the test. (i.e. valid drivers license, current passport, military ID, state ID, tribal ID card, college student ID card)
