About the Club

 Mission Statement:
         The Community College of Rhode Island  Italian Club is an organization whose purpose is: 

        To preserve, develop and promote an awareness and appreciation for the Italian language and culture.
        To enhance our academic programs by serving our students within our communities guided by a commitment to offer educational opportunities emphasizing self discovery, teamwork, and global awareness.
        To share a common interest in foreign languages and cultures by exchanging cultural experiences  with students from other institutions in the United States and abroad.

What:

       A meeting of students, adult learners, families and friends interested in the Italian language and culture.

When:

       Meet students and instructors "Conversiamo in italiano a pranzo" every Wednesday 12:00 Noon.

Where:

       CCRI Knight Campus Faculty and Staff Dining Commons Room 1132 (1st floor)


Past and Current Events

  • Sponsored educational trips to Italy, summers 1997, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006

  • Organized cultural visits to Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts, RISD in Providence, and museums in New York City
  • Presented awards to outstanding students of Italian: UNITAM Book Award, Renaissance Alliance Lodge/RITI Outstanding Merit Award, NIAF Outstanding Merit Award, CCRI Italian Club Award, Dr. Renato E. Leonelli Student Award by the Verrazzano Day Observance Committee
  • Sponsored  workshops  for children and adults in our local libraries
  • Presented basic lessons in Italian to children enrolled in the Preschool Learning Center CCRI Knight Campus

  • Co-Sponsored "Immersion Day" with RITI (Rhode Island Teachers of Italian Association)
  • Food Drive to benefit Amos House and St. Francis Food Center
  • Fundraising for the St. Jude Children's Hospital
  • Attended cultural events sponsored by the Renaissance Alliance Lodge OSIA (Order Sons of Italy in America), NIAF (National Italian American Foundation), FIERI Providence, IAHS (Italian American Historical Society)

  • Sponsored "Teach the Teachers Woorkshop"  NIAF Grant Academic Year 2004-2005

Visits to Ellis Island and Little Italy in New York.
   
Attended the opera performances of "La Traviata", "La Bohme", "Madame Butterfly" and "Carmen" in Providence and New York City
   
Co-sponsored with French/ German Club trips to Quebec, Canada.
   
Presented "Outstanding Merit Awards" for the study of Italian Language and Culture
   
Sponsored Cultural Cuisine Workshops in Orvieto, Italy
   
Attended Italian Film Festivals at RISD, Brown University and RIC
   
Sponsored Italian Language Summer Program for Children (Community Service Learning/Honors Project)
   
Participated in the "Splendor of Florence" (several students were interpreters of Italian)
   
 Sponsored "A Night at the Movies" at CCRI Knight Campus
