Warwick, R.I. – February 14, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Brockton, MA to play the Warriors of Massasoit Community College Wednesday evening for their final regular season game. The Lady Knights lost to the Warriors 56-49. With the loss CCRI falls to 16-11 on the season and 7-2 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights were coming off two dominant performances over the weekend versus Westchester CC and Springfield Tech and were looking to finish the regular season on a high note in Brockton. Unfortunately for CCRI Massasoit's twin sophomores Sierra and Sienna Johnson celebrated Sophomore Day with their own dominant performance. Sierra, who is ranked No. 31 by the NJCAA (DIII) in scoring with 18.1 points, led Massasoit with a game-high 26 points which included 12-15 from the free throw line. Her twin sister Sienna scored 18 points just one point off her season-high total. The Johnson sisters combined to score 44 of the Warriors' 56 total points. CCRI had a hard time scoring in this game after pouring in 97-79 in their games over the weekend they could only muster 49 points. One of the deciding factors in the game was the foul discrepancy which led to a big free throw margin in favor of Massasoit. Massasoit was 24-31 from the charity stripe while CCRI was only 7-13 for the game that 17 point difference coupled with a 31fouls against CCRI and just 16 against the Warriors spelled doom for the Lady Knights.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) with 11 points followed by seven points from Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton Beach, FL). Also helping CCRI was sophomore D'Asia Allen (Providence, RI) who had six points on two 3-pointers and Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) who also added six points.

The next game for the Lady Knights will come in the Region XIX Tournament at Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA the weekend of March 3rd & 4th. Seeing as the Lady Knights have no Division II teams in their Region (XXI) they will travel to Region XXI (NJ/PA) as the No. 3 seed and will play the No. 2 seed from Region XIX. Right now the top two seeds in Region XIX are Union County 18-1 and Lackawanna 17-1 with a game left apiece. The official bracket will be released later this week.
