Warwick, R.I. – April 23, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College form Middletown, NY for the final game of their three-game series on Sunday morning. The Lady Knights mounted an incredible comeback to defeat the Colts 7-5. Sunday was also 2018 Lady Knights Softball Sophomore Day. They celebrated the achievements of their "Fab Five" sophomores playing in their final weekend home softball games for CCRI. The "Fab Five" are: Dalynn Jacobs (Riverside, RI), Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI), Tri-Captain Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood (Little Compton, RI), Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) and Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI).

In the circle getting the start was Sophomore Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan who threw very well over three innings allowing two earned runs on five hits. Morgan did a very good job keeping the big bats of Orange County silent and worked out of jams that she did not create when some early errors cost them two runs. Morgan, the technician that she is, remained calm and got the big outs when she needed them. She was relieved by Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) who threw four strong innings allowing just one unearned run while striking out four batters to improve her pitching record to 5-2 on the season. For the second day in a row Caliri hit a solo homerun to help the CCRI offense giving her three long balls on the season.

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Knights was sophomore Dalynn Jacobs going 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Head Coach Kim Warrington commented ion her talented third baseman Jacobs: "I love the fire that Dalynn plays with. Today she kept solid demeanor in field in every position we put her and showed tremendous poise at the plate. She kept her competitive edge but still 'kept it classy' to showcase a 'together we can' attitude." Danielle David added two runs scored that were very important for the Lady Knights. Coach Warrington added about David "Danielle consistent and extremely communicative with her teammates to help delegate focus and execution. Her fielding, key hits and savvy on the field help this team in so many ways." The biggest hits of the game came from freshman Sam Muller who had an RBI double late in the game and then she obliterated a 3-run homerun to left field with the score 5-4 Orange County to give CCRI a 7-5 lead which they would not relinquish. Coach Warrington commented on Muller's big game "Sam has begun to turn a corner in her freshman year here and is finally taking command and showing her competitive fire and desire which is manifesting itself in some excellent results. I am so happy to see her grow and the team is benefitting from it and beginning to play their best as we moved towards the postseason."

The next games for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday when they will host the Mustangs of Monroe College from New Rochelle, NY for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30pm at Winslow Park in Warwick.
