Warwick, R.I. – April 23, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knight softball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Lady Knights and Colts split the doubleheader with CCRI losing 7-0 then came back to win 7-4 in game two. With the split the Lady Knights improve to 8-14 overall.

Game 1: CCRI- 0 Orange County- 7

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game was Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) who pitched very well but got zero run support behind her excellent effort. Morgan threw five strong innings allowing three earned runs on six hits, walking one and striking out three Colts batters but took the loss. Head Coach Kim Warrington commented about the resilience and leadership of her Tri-Captain "I told Kailee I know you might not feel like mound execution is where you want it but it all works great against these teams and your level head and steady composure is fantastic and so good for this squad. Keep doing your thing and better results are sure to come." Morgan was relieved by Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) who threw two innings allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out two batters.

At the plate for the Knights they only managed four hits. Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan had one as did Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI). Sophomore Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) and freshman Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) had the last one for CCRI. Unfortunately for the Lady Knights, Karlee Weeded from the Colts, twirled a gem and kept them off-balance all game giving up four hits with two strikeouts to get the shutout victory.

Game 2: CCRI- 7 Orange County- 4

In the circle for the Lady Knights freshman Hannah Caliri improved to 4-2 on the season with another dominant pitching performance. Caliri threw seven strong innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out 11 batters for the second game in a row. At the plate she was also a force with two hits including her second homerun of the season with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Lady Knights were trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the third inning when the offense erupted for five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Orange county battled back to score runs in the fourth and fifth but CCRI answered with a run in the fifth and the solo homerun from Caliri in the sixth as they went on to win by the final count of 7-4.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights offensively was sophomore Danielle David who went 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) was 3-3 with a walk as she also reached base in every at bat. Coach Warrington commented on the play of her Tri-Captain catcher "Sasso has been rock solid behind the plate at catcher and is catching fire at the plate and becoming an important piece in the middle of our line-up." Also having an excellent game was Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan and freshman Maddie McDonald who both contributed with two hits and an RBI apiece. Sam Muller added two hits, an RBI and a run scored while Tri-Captain Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood (Little Compton, RI) and Michelle Spremulli (Warwick, RI) each added a hit an RBI and a run scored apiece. Coach Warrington added about her sophomore Tri-Captain center fielder Wood: "Stevie-Rae is the heart that always pumps fuel through the team. I cannot emphasize enough how important that is! We have a dynamic group of captains that really are different but are all critical to our success that is why our staff and fans have upmost faith in them!"

The Lady Knights will play the rubber match of the series Sunday at 11am as CCRI will also celebrate Sophomore Day when they will honor their five sophomores playing in their final weekend contest of the season at home.
