Warwick, R.I. – April 9, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Huskies of Northeastern University Club Team to Winslow Park for a doubleheader on Saturday. Saturday was also the 2018 Lady Knights Pink Out where they wore Pink and raised funds in conjunction with the Pink Heals Rhode Island Chapter to help fight the battle against cancer. The Lady Knights won the first game 8-5 but lost the second 11-1. With the split the Lady Knights are now 4-8 on the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 8 Northeastern- 5

In the circle for the Lady Knights was freshman Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) who threw seven strong innings against very potent Northeastern line-up. Caliri allowed three earned runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out four Husky batters on a frigid day at Winslow Park. With the strong outing Hannah picks-up her second victory of the year to improve to 2-1 on the season.

At the plate for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) led the way with two hits and an RBI as did freshman Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT). Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) offered the biggest hit of the day with a solo Homerun to centerfield, her second long ball of the year. Tri-Captain Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood (Little Compton, RI) led the game off with a double and scored the first run for the Lady Knights. Freshman Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) had a single, two RBIs and a run scored, Sophomore Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) had a single, an RBI and a run scored and Dalynn Jacobs (Riverside, RI) added a hit and RBI.

The Lady Knights scored three times in the first to go ahead 3-0 but Northeastern answered with two runs in the third to cut the CCRI lead to 3-2. Northeastern tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fifth before CCRI erupted for four runs in the fifth with two RBIs from McDonald, and one apiece from Muller and Jacobs. Miranda Sasso capped the scoring in the sixth inning when she led off with her second homer of the year, a missile to straight away centerfield. Northeastern scored a run in the sixth and seventh but it wasn't enough as CCRI won buy the final count of 8-5.

Game 2: CCRI- 1 Northeastern- 11

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the second game was Sam Muller who unfortunately got no run support as she threw five strong innings and allowed three earned runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts. The Lady Knights defense also did not help her cause with three errors which helped open the scoring flood gates for the potent Northeastern line-up to score 11 runs.

At the plate for CCRI they could only muster three hits. Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso had a single and the sole CCRI RBI. Sophomore Danielle David and freshmen Michelle Spremulli (Warwick, RI) each added a single apiece for the Lady Knights but they could not generate enough offense to counter their erratic defensive play in the second game.

The Lady Knights travel to New Rochelle, NY on Sunday to play a doubleheader versus the Mustangs of Monroe College beginning at 1:00pm.
