Warwick, R.I. – April 25, 2018: the CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Division I Mustangs of Monroe College for a doubleheader Tuesday at Winslow Park for their final regular season home games of the season. The Lady Knights and Mustangs split the doubleheader with CCRI winning the first game 6-3 but falling in game two 8-4. With the split CCRI is now 10-15 on the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 6 Monroe- 3

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game was sophomore Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) who got her first start of the season. David threw three string innings allowing three earned runs on three hits and walking two batters. Danielle has been battling injuries and pitched very well for her first foray of the year as she left the game with a 4-3 lead after three innings. Her only blemish was a 3-run homerun from clean-up hitter Veronica Casanova. David was relieved by Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) who tossed four superb shutout innings allowing just two hits and striking out two Mustang batters to earn her fourth victory of the year.

At the plate for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) had the biggest hit of the game which was a 2-Run Homerun in the first inning, her third dinger of the year. Also having an excellent day was Dalynn Jacobs (Riverside, RI) who had two hits including a double and Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) who had a double and a run scored. Also helping CCRI was Michelle Spremulli (Warwick, RI) whop added a single, an RBI and a run scored and Sam Muller (North Stonington, RI) had an RBI single. Rounding out the CCRI offense were pitchers Danielle David and Kailee Morgan who each added a single and a run scored.

Game 2: CCRI- 4 Monroe- 8

In the circle for the Lady Knights getting the start in the second game was Hannah Caliri. Caliri did not have her best stuff on Tuesday but battled threw one inning allowing four runs on five hits and walking one batter to take the loss. She was relieved by Kailee Morgan who threw six strong innings allowing only one earned run on eight hits, walking five and striking out three.

Offensively for the Lady Knights they had six hits and trailed 7-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. In the fifth the CCRI's first two batters got out then Hannah Caliri started the fireworks with a solo homerun her third homerun in four games. From there Michelle Spremulli walked and Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) walloped her second 2-Run homer of the day to cut the Monroe lead to 7-4. However that is as close as the Lady Knights would get as Monroe tacked on an insurance run in the sixth and went on to win 8-4. Sasso ended the game going 3-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman Vanessa Santiago (Waterbury, CT) had two hits for CCRI. Spremulli had a single, a walk and two runs scored, Dalynn Jacobs added an RBI single and Danielle David added a single.

The next games for CCRI will be in the Region XV/III/XXI Tournament held at Mercyhurst North East in North East PA this Saturday and Sunday.
