Warwick, R.I. – April 11, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA for a doubleheader at Winslow Park in Warwick on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Knights won the first game 12-4 in five inning but trailed Massasoit 11-7 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in the second game before it was called due to darkness. The second game will be resumed Wednesday the 18th when the two teams meet again in Brockton, MA for their second Region XXI doubleheader.

Game 1: CCRI- 12 Massasoit- 4 (5 innings)

Getting the start in the circle for the Lady Knights was sophomore Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) who threw three strong innings allowing four runs on five hits, walking one and striking out five Warrior batters to pick up the victory. Morgan was relieved by Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) who threw two hitless innings while striking out three batters to pick up the save.

At the plate for the Lady Knights they were led by freshman Michelle Spremulli (Warwick, RI) who crushed two 2-run Homeruns and added two walks with four RBIs and two runs scored. The first bomb was hit almost to the infield of the field behind the field they were playing on and the second one was a missile that left the park in a hurry and came back with a three inch gash in the cover, she literally ripped the cover off the ball! Also helping CCRI's 11-hit barrage was Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) with two hits including a double with two RBIs and two runs scored and sophomore Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) also had two hits with two RBIs and a run scored. Vanessa Santiago (Waterbury, CT) had a 2-RBIs double and Kailee Morgan helped her own cause with a single an RBI and a run scored. Rounding out the CCRI attack was Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) hit a double with three runs scored and Dalynn Jacobs added a hit and a run scored.

Game 2: CCRI- 7 Massasoit- 11 (suspended due to darkness after 6 ½ innings)

In the circle starting for game two was Sam Muller who threw four inning allowing three earned runs but erratic defense and mental errors in field had her leave the game with the score tied at 7-7. Muller was relieved by Kailee Morgan who threw two innings allowing two earned runs but two more errors by CCRI allowed four runs in which has CCRI trailing 11-7 after the top of the sixth with one more at bat for Massasoit and tow for CCRI.

Michelle Spremulli

At the plate for CCRI Michelle Spremulli crushed her third homer of the day, a solo shot and added another RBI. Maddie McDonald smashed a double that hit the yellow guard atop the fence just missing her first homer with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. Danielle David added two hits and two run scored and Sam Muller helped her own cause with a hit a walk and two runs scored. Hannah Caliri had two hits, an RBI and a run scored and Vanessa Santiago added two hits. Rounding out the offense so far was Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood (Little Compton, RI) and Kelsie Fitta (West Warwick, RI) who added a hit apiece.

This second game will resume before the two teams meet again Wednesday the 18th in Brockton, MA. The good news for the Lady Knights, though they trail 11-7 in that the top of the order is up which means Michelle Spremulli and the rest of the top of the order will have a great chance to cut into that Warrior lead.

The next games for the Lady Knights will be this weekend when they travel to North East, PA play the very potent Saints of Mercyhurst North East for three games. Saturday they play a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm & 3:00pm and Sunday they will have one game at 10:00am.
