Knights’ Sluggers Sink Seawolves 11-0!

Warwick, R.I. – April 2, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team had their fifth game in as many days as the Seawolves of Southern Maine came into town. Dominance in the sixth and seventh inning gave the Knights a 11-0 win in seven innings. The win improves CCRI's season record to 10-9 and 4-1 in Region XXI play.

CCRI – 11 Southern Maine – 0 (7 Innings)

After a convincing win the day before against Mass Bay, the Knights wanted to keep the train moving versus Southern Maine. CCRI got off on the right foot as they scored in the bottom of the first. Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) scored from second off a Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) single to right field. The Knights' next run was scored in the third when Grossguth would score from second himself off a Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) single to left field. To make the game 2-0 after three innings.

The game began opening up in the sixth inning. Leading off the inning for the Knights was Jarrad Grossguth. He kicked the scoring off with a solo blast making the score 3-0 in favor of the Knights. Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI) followed suit with a two-run bomb over the right field fence pushing the score to 6-0. The third and final homer of the day would come in the sixth inning. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) pulled a hanging pitch to deep left field for a two-run shot giving CCRI an 8-0 lead. The game would end on an Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) double to left field, bringing in two runs and ending the game in seven innings.

On the mound for the Knights was Zach D'Andrea (Warwick, RI). D'Andrea pitched seven innings, giving up only four hits and not conceding a single walk. Of the 21 batters he faced, D'Andrea struck out five and ensure the shutout for the Knights.

Leading the CCRI offense was Jarrad Grossguth batting 4-4 with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Austin Davis went 4-5 with two RBI on the day. Michael Castillo was 2-4 with one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base. Zach Odsen also swiped a stolen base as he went 1-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Owen Wosleger batted 2-3 with a run scored. Joey Barter (Coventry, RI) went 2-3 while he tallied one RBI and one run scored. The Knights tallied 15 total hits on the day as they dispatched the Seawolves 11-0 in seven innings.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Knights baseball team will host NHTI for a Saturday DH on March 31, first pitch at noon.
