Warwick, R.I. – April 6, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team took to the road for the first time since their Florida trip on Thursday evening as they faced the Mitchell College Mariners. The Knights and Mariners battled for nine innings where Mitchell College came out on top 16-7. The loss drops CCRI's season record to 12-10 while having a 4-1 record in Region XXI play.

CCRI – 7 Mitchell College – 16 (9 Innings)

In the first road game since coming back north, the Knights had a difficult task in Mitchell College. The game started off quickly as CCRI scored one run in the top of the first but was quickly answered by three Mariner runs in the bottom half. Both teams took two runs in the second inning, after which Mitchell was leading 5-3.

The third inning saw fortunes start to tip in favor of the Knights. CCRI scored two runs in the top of the third while Mitchell only managed one, score Mitchell 6, CCRI 5. Unfortunately, the game would open up after a six-run inning for the Mariners and they never looked back after that. CCRI would claw back two more runs but the game would end with Mitchell on top, 16-7 after nine innings.

The Knights offense combined for 10 hits. Leading CCRI from the batter's box was Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) batting 2-3 with a solo homerun. Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) went 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) also notched 2-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI), Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI), Anthony Padilla (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) and Joey Barter (Coventry, RI) each recorded one hit apiece to round of the CCRI hitting.

Four pitchers took the mound for the Knights. Starting was John Hemond (Pawtucket, RI) as he went two and two-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs. Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) threw two innings, allowing five earned runs. Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) next came into the game for one and two-thirds innings of work allowing just one hit. Asa Nyblom finished off the game for the Knights, throwing three innings in which he allowed only three hits and struck out seven batters.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Knights baseball team will travel to Groton, CT for their first Region XXI league game versus the Pointers UConn-Avery Point for a Saturday doubleheader on April 7, with the first pitch slotted for noon.
