Warwick, R.I. – April 12, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled north to take on the on the Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute in a rematch from a few weeks ago. The Knights were victorious in the first meeting and continued winning ways as they dispatched the Lynx in five innings, 18-2. The win improves CCRI's season record to 14-11 overall, 5-3 in Region XXI play and 1-1 in league play.

CCRI – 18 NHTI – 2 (5 Innings)

After winning the first two games between the teams rather handedly, CCRI looked to jump out of the gates quickly. After a rather uneventful first inning in which the Knights recorded one hit, that being a double to right field by Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) began to put the ball in play. The first two runs scored off a defensive error and then Ray Aponte (East Providence, RI) hit a single to score David Mejia (Pawtucket, RI) and make the score 3-0. Austin Davis knocked in the last two runs of the inning off a deep sac fly to right field that brought in two runs, CCRI 5, NHTI 0 after two innings.

NHTI would answer back with two runs of their own but would not get a single run or even a hit for the rest of the game. CCRI snatched another run in the top of the fourth off an error increasing the lead to 6-2. The game however wouldn't truly open up until the top of the fifth where the Knights enjoyed a 12-run inning. Kick-starting the offensive onslaught was Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI), CCRI 7 NHTI 2. Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI) then smacked a double to left field, scoring two runs, CCRI 9 NHTI 2.

The scoring wouldn't stop there as Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) knocked in two runs himself off a single to left field, CCRI 11 NHTI 2. An error brought McCann around to score before Justin Brown (Wallingford, CT) produced an RBI single to left to push the advantage to nine runs, 13-2. David Mejia followed this up with yet another single to left that scored Steve Cochrane (Guilford, CT) from third CCRI 14 NHTI 2. Exavier Santiago brought in two runs when he hit a single through left side, CCRI 16 NHTI 2. Kyle McCann brought in another run when he singled to left field, scoring Justin Brown and the final run of the game was scored after Austin Davis launched a double to straight away center, bringing around Nick D'Ambra. NHTI had no answers in the bottom of the fifth and the game would end in five innings CCRI 18 NHTI 2.

Keeping the Lynx bats dormant was CCRI hurler Zach Odsen (Providence, RI), throwing five innings in which he only allowed two runs and two hits and struck out nine NHTI batters. His lock down pitching allowed the offense to swing freely, and swing they did.

The Knights' bats certainly came alive against NHTI as the CCRI offense combined for 14 hits. Leading the way was Kyle McCann, batting 2-5 with two singles, three RBI and one run scored. Austin Davis went 2-4, both hits being doubles, while knocking in three RBI. Michael Castillo was 2-2 with two singles one stolen base and two runs scored. Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) batted 2-3 with two singles a stolen base and one run scored. David Mejia was 1-3 on the day while adding one RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored. Nick D'Ambra's lone hit was a double as he went 1-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Steve Cochrane had a single, going 1-3 with one run scored. Justin Brown chipped in with a single, 1-1 with one RBI and two runs scored. Ray Aponte had a single himself as he batted 1-2 and added one RBI and two runs scored. Exavier Santiago rounded off the hitting as he went 1-2 with a single, three RBI and two runs scored.
