Warwick, R.I. – April 18, 2018: Monday evening the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) held their annual Distinguished Athlete Reception at Ochre Court located on the Campus of Salve Regina University. CCRI Cross Country and Track standout Allison Lenox was honored as the Distinguished Athlete Recipient from the Community College of Rhode Island.

The Distinguished Student-Athlete Award is presented to one female athlete from each of the state's nine collegiate institutions. The criteria for the RIAIAW Distinguished Athlete of the Year Award has three key components, they are as follows: The honoree must possess leadership qualities. She must stand as a role model to others, displaying such coveted assets as perseverance, commitment, ethical behavior and academic success. She must enjoy an above average degree of physical talent.

Allison Lenox from North Kingstown, RI began her track career at CCRI in the 2016-16 academic year. Allison started on the Indoor Track team where she competed in the middle distance events including the 200m, 400m, 500m, 600m and 800m events. She had a season-best time in the 200m of 28.85 seconds and 1:02.14 season-best in the 400m event for indoor. Her best in the 500m was 1:21.77, 600m 1:45.64 and 2:37.29 in the 800m event during the indoor season.

It wasn't until the Track & Field (Outdoor) season that Lenox really began to find her stride. She qualified for the NJCAA DIII Track & Field Nationals with her try in the 400m event at the UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Invite where she placed 10th in 1:03.83. Lenox also continued to compete in other middle-distance disciplines such as the 200m and in her final outdoor meet she added a field event, The Triple Jump to her performance arsenal. In CCRI's final regular season meet at Regis College she finished in second place finish in the Triple Jump (TJ) with a 34 foot jump (10.36m). Not only was this Lenox's first time jumping this season but the 34 foot leap ranks her at the top of the NJCAA III performance list rankings in the TJ.

The CCRI Men's and Women's Track and Field teams traveled to Howard Community College in Columbia, MD to compete in the 2017 NJCAA Division III Track and Field Nationals. For the Lady Knights Lenox led the way with a first place finish in the Triple Jump with a leap of 10.21m. This effort earned her First Team All-American honors. She wasn't done there as she also placed 4th in the 400m run with a season-best time of 1:02.19 seconds.

In her sophomore campaign Lenox joined the CCRI Cross Country team which she used as a training season for her track seasons. She showed steady improvements in her times in each race she ran. She started the season with a 25.56 time over the 8k course at the Cod fish Bowl. As the season progressed her remaining races were across a 5k interval where she started with a 23:31 at the Emmanuel Saints Invite and had trimmed her time down to 23:11 when she competed at the Tri-State Invitational in front of her home fans on the CCRI Cross Country Course in Lincoln. However, Lenox saved her best cross country performance for the NJCAA Nationals at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA where she finished 65th in a career-best time of 22:59.

In January of 2018 she began her second campaign for the CCRI Indoor Track Team. Lenox started with a bang running a career-best in the 500m race with the time of 1 minute 20.6 seconds which placed her 22nd in the event. Lenox's time was just .07 seconds off the CCRI record of 1:20.53 set by Sherilyn Nicholas in 2005. It was just two weeks later when Lenox would set a new CCRI record in the 500m run with a 27th place finish in the time of 1 minute 20.12 seconds. Allison continues to show improvement in every meet she appears in for CCRI and will look to culminate her sophomore season with another excellent run at the NJCAA Division III Track 7 Field National Championships at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY May 10-12th.
