The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is offered at the Community College of
Rhode Island. CLEP is sponsored by the College Board and offers you the opportunity
to obtain college credit by examination. Many American colleges encourage students
to take CLEP tests for credit in subjects they have mastered. People of all ages interested
in pursuing a college education have reduced cost in time and money completing CLEP
tests.

CLEP TESTS ARE COMPUTER-BASED. CLEP offers two types of 90-minute multiple choice
tests. The General Examinations are designed to measure familiarity with material
which would be covered in courses taken during the first two years of college to meet
the general education or liberal arts requirements, and are offered in English Composition,
Humanities, College Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & History. Subject
examinations are designed to measure knowledge and achievement usually covered in
specific college courses.
There is a $97 Registration Fee (paid to College Board)
Please note that a registration fee voucher, which will allow you to take the test
for free, is available to students that complete CLEP test preparation through an
organization called Modern States (https://modernstates.org/).
There is a $30 proctor fee for non-CCRI, non-matriculating students.
