Frequently asked questions

What is the official charity of the CCRI 5K?

The newly-created CCRI 5K Book Award is the official charity of this race. Active CCRI students with extenuating financial needs who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for funds that can be used to pay for textbooks and supplies.

Can I contribute more that the cost of the race fee?

Yes. Online registration and race-day registration will accept additional donations. All proceeds from these additional donations will go directly to the CCRI 5K Book Award.

Is the CCRI 5K a certified USA Track and Field (USATF) course?

This year's course is not USATF certified, but it has been accurately wheel-measured.

What type of course is it?

Located entirely on the CCRI Flanagan Campus, the CCRI 5K is a combination of paved roadway surfaces and wooded trails. The off-road sections are part of CCRI's groomed cross country course.

Will there be a staggered start?

All runners/walkers will participate in the same start. Faster runners should position themselves close to the start line, but be cognizant that the race may include inexperienced young runners who may not be fully aware of race etiquette.

Where do I pick up my race packet?

Race packets will be distributed prior to race start, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Packet Pickup/Registration area next to the Field House.

What does my entry fee include?

T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 300 participants. Entry fees also include post run/walk snacks and beverages.

Can I register on the morning of the race?

Yes. Registration will open on race day at 8 a.m. in the Field House.

Why do race fees increase on race day?

Because we offer awards and t-shirts, we must order well in advance. We must estimate how many people will be competing in order to make sure we have enough of each, but don't spend money on material that will not be used. Entering early helps both the runner and the event save money, and ensures supplies are appropriate for the event.

Where do I park on race morning?

Participants will park in the South Lot (the lot closest to the Field House) at CCRI's Flanagan Campus. The start line is a short walk from this parking area.

Are strollers and dogs allowed on the course?

Dogs are not allowed on the course. Strollers are welcome but please be aware that parts of the course are slightly hilly and on unpaved surfaces. This may challenge some stroller participants.

Can I wear headphones?

Headphones are allowed, but they are discouraged for your safety and the safety of others.

Will there be restroom facilities available?

The restroom facilities in the Flanagan Campus Field House will be available before, during, and after the race. There will be no facilities along the course.

Will there be gear check?

No. The parking area is close to the race start and gear check will be unnecessary.

Will there be water stops along the course?

There will be one water table positioned just after the 2K marker.

What if there is bad weather?

Dress accordingly; the 5K will be held rain or shine.

What if I am unable to attend?

Unfortunately, refunds will not be given to runners registered for the CCRI 5K who are unable to participate.

Can I cheer on friends and family?

Absolutely! Everyone loves a little encouragement. See the course map to plot your cheering spot along the paved portions of the course. Additionally, the finish line is located on the center of the soccer field; there will be bleachers and picnic tables for spectators to cheer on participants.

Will there be food and drink after the race?
