ShiatsuPalooza Triumphs Again

What are the benefits of Shiatsu therapy and acupressure?

The annual ShiatsuPalooza event conducted by the Therapeutic Massage program at CCRI offers the opportunity for us to find out. For one evening in early November, Karlo Berger’s Introduction to Eastern Modalities class learn how to provide safe and effective treatment on a massage chair.

The dozen or so students practiced their skills and the volunteers experienced a mindful and compassionate strategy toward better health and well-being.

“It is an evening featuring a scientific art and an artistic science,” Berger says of shiatsu, a massage technique that uses finger and palm pressure and various stretches to relieve anxiety and pain.
