E-Learning Error Messages

I click the link to launch the course but nothing happens. What do I do?

Check to see that the pop-up blocker is disabled:
  • open Internet Explorer
  • click on Tools in the menu bar
  • click Popup Blocker
  • select Turn Off Pop Up blocker
  • click on Tools again
  • select Internet Options
  • click on the Privacy tab
  • uncheck Block Popups

This can also be done by:

  • clicking on Tools
  • selecting Internet Options
  • clicking on the Privacy tab
  • unchecking Block Pop Ups
Turn off add-on toolbars, from the menu bar of Internet Explorer:
  • select View
  • highlight Toolbars and then uncheck Yahoo, Google, MSN, AOL, Viewpoint, Starbar, or any other toolbars.
Disable third party browser extensions within Internet Explorer:
  • click Tools
  • click on the Advanced tab
  • uncheck Enable Third Party Browser Extensions (this is located under the BROWSING category)
Be sure that java is installed, and that there is only one version of java enabled.
  • open Internet Explorer
  • click on Tools
  • select Internet Options
  • click on the Advanced tab
  • scroll down about halfway to the Multimedia category
  • just above are the java listings, you will see Microsoft VM, Sun, JRE or IBM Java.

The preferred type of java is Sun JRE (version1.3.1_02 or higher). If you do not have Java installed, go to http://www.java.com to install the latest version. After installing, restart your machine. Be sure that only one type of java is enabled-if more than one type has boxes checked, uncheck all boxes in the type(s) that you do not want to use. To test Java functionality, go to http://www.java.sun.com/applets/other, and click on the Bouncing Heads link. If this item displays activity and sound, Java is functioning properly.

Clear Cookies and Cache in Internet Explorer :
  • open Internet Explorer and select Tools
  • select Internet Options
  • under the General tab, click on the Delete Files button located under Temporary Internet Files
  • select OK when the pop-up appears. This may take a while depending on how many temporary files are stored.
  • click the Delete Cookies button and click OK
  • close all Internet Explorer Windows.

This can prove useful for audio/display issues and course launch issues, but should be done only if the popup and Java steps in this document do not resolve the issue .

  • click Popup Blocker
  • select Turn Off Popup blocker

  • select Internet Options

Also be sure to disable any firewalls or internet security programs you are using before launching E-Learning (i.e. Norton Internet Security). To do this, right click on the icon down by your clock, and select disable. The security program can be re-enabled the same way after exiting E-Learning.
