The mission of the CCRI Foundation is to secure monies for the Community College of Rhode Island through dynamic campaigns and public awareness of the College’s value to the community.
Established by the RI Legislature in 1979, the Rhode Island Junior College Foundation’s charge was to provide a means of securing external support for the College and its programs and services. With the overall state budget severely constrained, the Foundation’s role in obtaining additional resources has become vital to the integrity of the college and its goal to help students change their lives and achieve their dreams. In 2007, the Foundation embarked on its most ambitious comprehensive campaign to date, a five-year, $5.5 million campaign. Called “Imagine: The Campaign for Endless Possibilities,” this fundraising initiative will strengthen CCRI’s Allied Health programs, build new state-of-the-art facilities, establish scholarships and enhance athletics programs to strengthen the college’s foundation for the future.
The Foundation played a leadership role in three previous campaigns that raised community awareness of the college. In 2003, the Foundation raised $1 million for high-tech software and hardware as well as cutting edge lab equipment for the Newport County Campus. A second campaign phase sought an additional $500,000 for library acquisitions, health center equipment, professional development programs, scholarships and specialized, high-tech equipment to serve students with disabilities. In total, the Foundation raised more than $1.5 million in support of the Newport County Campus.
In 2001, the Foundation launched plans to raise $1 million for renovations to the Dental Hygiene Clinic at the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln. The goal was met within two years and the newly refurbished dental health clinic has maintained its stellar reputation as an education lab and community resource.
