Professor M. Kelly Murphy (Kelly) earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from CCRI, a BS from RIC and an MSN-APRN from Mass. General Institute of Health Professions with a concentration in advanced practice geriatrics and adult health care. Kelly’s graduate studies included clinical practicum at: Hebrew Home for the Ageing, Department of Geriatric Medicine at Brown and Harvard University as well as the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Her scholarly graduate work involved the development of a conceptual framework utilizing functional outcomes in the care of the geriatric patient. Kelly has been teaching at CCRI since 1997. Prior, Kelly practiced at Mass. General Hospital for over a decade and worked as a nurse practitioner at Aquidneck Medical Center in her hometown of Newport, RI.
Kelly has strong interests and expertise in public health, geriatric care, patient advocacy and nursing history. She is licensed, board certified as an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner and is currently licensed as an APRN n the state of RI. Kelly’s interest in public health led to her volunteering at the RI Health Advocacy Foundation as well as The National Patient Advocacy Foundation where she holds a seat on the president’s council. Also, Kelly has a strong interest in both the history and culture of nursing.
